DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
The Democratic Republic of Congo is considered potentially the world’s richest country in terms of wealth in natural resources. Most of the raw mineral deposits remain untapped and are an estimated $24 trillion.
However, the instability from years of wars and political upheaval is one of the most significant causes of poverty in Congo
What is Congo famous for?
DRC is endowed with exceptional natural resources, including minerals such as cobalt and copper, hydropower potential, significant arable land, immense biodiversity, and the world’s second-largest rainforest.
7.6 million children and half of girls between age 5-17 are not in school, with the cost of school for families living in poverty being a major reason (UNICEF, 2024).
What is the main problem in DRC?
Forced displacement in the most affected provinces in DRC is expected to continue in 2025, worsening the already dire humanitarian emergency in the country, with 27 million people in need of support because of conflict, food insecurity, climate impacts and epidemics in 2024.
